It seems to me a very Euro thing to do: make your own liqueur. And frugal to boot!
Here is a link to an interesting article with some recipes:

Marsi, I know you have made limoncello. Any tips?

I'd be interested in tips, as well. I have about 5 recipes clipped to make Limoncello but have not tried it yet. I actually bought a bottle of Pellini Limoncello to give to a friend at a housewarming party this weekend.

Oops it is Pallini
Guilty as charged: I have made limoncello! My recipe calls for infusing equal parts of good (but not best quality) vodka with EVERCLEAR (!) with lemon peels plus the peels of two limes, just for fun. After about a month, you strain the peels and add a simple syrup and let it sit FOREVER. The longer, the better. It really does improve with age. We just finished an 18-month old bottle a few weeks ago and it was the best.
I also recommend doubling your recipe.
It is heavenly when mixed with fresh mixed berries served with a little fresh whipped cream. In place of vanilla extract for this, I like to use a little limoncello when whipping the cream.
That's it! I think those are all of my tips. The recipe you linked -- the rose and vanilla -- sounds so fab. I'm going to have to try that ....
P.S. I do not recommend grating the zest off of lemons. Rather, use a vegetable peeler, and be very careful not to peel too deep and get a lot of the pith. Pith makes limoncello bitter.
Thanks Marsi for all the info. I think I finally will get around to making this....soon. La
